Governor signs 3 Buckeye Firearms Association backed bills

On Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, Gov. Mike DeWine signed three important bills that we have supported and testified for over the 2-year course of Ohio's 135th General Assembly:

Senate Bill 32, sponsored by Sen. Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster), and which was amended into House Bill 452, provides civil immunity to a person who acts in self-defense and protects members and/or guests of a nonprofit, including churches.

Senate Bill 58, sponsored by Sens. Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) and Theresa Gavarone (R-Huron), prohibits requiring firearm liability insurance or being required to pay a fee for the possession of a firearm, part of a firearm, its components, its ammunition, or a knife.

Senate Bill 148, sponsored by Sen. Terry Johnson, and which was amended into SB 58, prohibits financial institutions from tracking firearms purchases and prohibits government entities from maintaining a registry of firearms or firearm owners.

Buckeye Firearms Association strongly backed each bill and thanks the Governor for signing these vital pieces of legislation. The new laws go into effect 90 days after signing.

To join, you are required to:

1) Have someone that has been a member of BLLR for 2 or more years sponsor you,

2) Be an NRA, GOA or  OGO  member in good standing,

3) Pass a general background check and complete the application process.

Please have the member who will sponsor you contact me and we will start the application process.         

At this time, the dues are $150 per year, due upon being voted into the club and there is a one-time fee of $40 for the background check upon sending in an application. If the background check requires additional jurisdictional searches you are responsible for that cost. Our membership year goes from July 1st through June 30th.
